Grants awarded included 10 local groups.

Bishop Center for the Performing Arts – Bishop Center, located on Grays Harbor College campus has been presenting innovative, cross cultural and family friendly entertainment for 38 years. This grant will provide operating funds for the upcoming theatrical season.

Coastal Community Action Program – CCAP assists individuals in need with programs such as weatherizing homes to provide greater comfort at less cost for utilities, job training and placement, housing, energy assistance and transportation. These funds will help continue this work and help to remove barriers that prevent these people from achieving economic stability.

Catholic Community Services of Western Washington – The Feed the Hungry program provides hot meals six days a week for men, women and families in Grays Harbor County. This program provides hot, nourishing meals Sunday through Friday to any and all that need it, without any qualifications. Over 50 volunteers plan, prepare and serve 80-100+ meals per day.

Grays Harbor LaCrosse Club – Teaching the skills and play of LaCrosse is the primary objective of the Grays Harbor LaCrosse Club. But there is more involved as the Club focuses on positive personal, team and community interaction. These grant funds will help fund the upcoming season with the purchase of equipment and payment of team and individual fees as necessary.

Grays Harbor College Emergency Operations Center – As part of the Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) across the county, Grays Harbor College has been designated as an evacuation zone for the areas south of the Chehalis RiverBridge. In case of an emergency local residents will be asked to go to the college. The College plans to enhance their role as an Emergency Operations Center (EOC) by providing a command post on the south side of the Chehalis for first responders. These funds will assist in the purchase and relation of a generator to provide power for this valuable community service.

Grays Harbor Youth Works – The mission of Grays Harbor Youth Works is to engage and transform 15-19-year-old high school youth through internship programs with business and encourage them to pursue college, vocational training, or military for higher education. Funds for the Transportation Program will help solve the greatest barrier to many students wanting to participate in the internship program: Transportation to shuttle students who live far from locations to their employers and make sure the students get home safely afterwards.

Green Lantern Lunch Program – Since 2015 Green Lantern Lunch has provided lunches to North Beach Children during times when they do not receive lunches at school. Lantern Lunch has two programs: the Summer Lunch Program which operates June through August and the Backpack Program which operates September through May. These funds will provide operating expenses for the more than 25,000 meals they expect to provide.

Ocean Shores Firefighter Association – Fitness for firefighters is a critical aspect of their job. Ocean Shores Fire Department is focusing on fitness by replacing and improving fitness facilities and undergoing fitness evaluations to note current status and improvement for these men and women. This grant provides funds to replace existing old and not necessarily functional equipment with new.

Ocean Shores Food Bank – This Food Bank originated over 30 years ago to ensure that no one in the OS community goes hungry. The demand for these services has increased over the years. In order to facilitate growth for the food bank, this grant will allow the purchase of new refrigerators and freezers to replace older malfunctioning units as well as new units to increase capacity.

Grays Harbor CERT – The Community Emergency Response Team program is ramping up across Grays Harbor County to provide a safe spot for shelter, food and an emergency team to deal with whatever catastrophe may occur. Seabrook announces town expansion after significant homes sales

SEABROOK, Wash. – (March 20, 2018) – Seabrook, Washington’s beach town, is proud to announce more than $40.7 million in total home sales during 2017, a 25 percent increase from 2016. The rise in sales over the past year coincides with the town’s significant 2018 expansion that will encompass new single-family homes, townhomes, neighborhoods and 15 new merchants including retailer and restaurants, making Seabrook a must-see destination in the Pacific Northwest.

“When we set out to build Seabrook, we truly believed that people were looking for a completely different lifestyle experience than what has been traditionally offered at ‘resort communities’ over the past 50 years,” said Founder, Casey Roloff. “Last year’s dramatic increase in home sales is a testament to that belief and we continue to see a strong demand for the new product offerings that are coming in 2018. We are excited to draw more home buyers and visitors as we cement Seabrook’s status as a thriving, inclusive community.”

Within the past month, Seabrook has introduced 13 new homes in its otherwise sold-out Farm District, including The Croft, a new Farm District courtyard park surrounded by nine homes. The Croft, meaning “small farm,” includes a fire pit with Adirondack chairs around it, casual seating areas, a grassy lawn and a corn hole installation. Homes now selling in The Croft are priced from the mid-$400,000 to mid-$500,000 and consist of two- and three-bedroom floor plans. Four of the new Farm District homes have already been sold. Overall, Seabrook has already sold just over $8 million in total homes sales in 2018.

In 2017, total home sales rose from $32.5 million in 2016 to $40.7 million. New homeowners are primarily coming from the Puget Sound area, including Seattle, Tacoma, Bellevue, Kirkland, Redmond, Everett, Olympia, Bainbridge Island and Bremerton.

Introducing The Croft – nine NEW cottages in the Farm District

Introducing The Croft – nine NEW cottages in the Farm District

As told by Seabrook’s town planner Stephen Poulakos

Seabrook’s town plan has had cottage courts within them before.

However, we are updating the cottage court design, and creating a new one called The Croft. It’s going to be home for nine brand new homes in the Farm District.  The Croft is a small pocket park that will be fronted by these nine homes.

The four homes on the corners of the park have gracious front porches and nice intimate side yards. They have views of the Farm District’s beautiful barn and they also look onto the primary street that runs through the Farm District neighborhood.

The Croft micro-neighborhood itself is a nice little pocket park with a pedestrian entrance, and all of the homes’ front porches sit on this park.

And, within that park, you’ll have everything from a nice place for two people to sit and have a conversation with one another to a round fireplace in the very middle of the park that will have five to six adirondack chairs around it. In addition, it will have a corn hole court, one the primary amenities within a grass lawn area.

About the Design

Because we are in the Farm District, I wanted to make sure the Croft has beautiful perennial flowers, as well as some flowering fruit trees – elements that will make you feel as if you’re in the Farm District – which is where this neighborhood is located.

Almost all of Seabrook’s public spaces and parks, whether they be large parks or small parks tend to have one major element of gathering in it. And a lot of time we find that it is either around an outdoor fireplace or a specific fire pit.

In each individual neighborhood we try to create a different look and feel with parks and public spaces so each has their own unique style and existence within Seabrook.

What’s Unique about The Croft?

Five of the nine houses are all one-level. We’ve had many people over the last few years asking for more one-level houses, so we’ve brought these plans into the Croft.

On the corners we have two-story houses. That’s an urban planning technique so that the main street corners have taller houses (in this case, two-stories tall), but then on the mid-block you have smaller homes. So you have bookends, if you will, on both ends of the park. And that’s what we’ve done with the Croft.

The Trillium is a two bedroom, two bath house, and this plan is found in the five houses in the middle of the Croft.  We’ve found that this plan appeals to everyone from empty-nesters to young families with young kids to a single person. The house is just the right size for just about everybody.

About the Floor Plans

The Croft has three different floor plans, with some variations.

Three of the corners offer a plan called the Maplewood, which has been one of our most popular plans because it has the ability to have a really nice mudroom on the rear of it.  Two of the three Maplewood lots also allow for a ground floor master bedroom, which is another thing that has been important for many of our buyers.

About the Trillium Floor Plan

The Trillium floor plan is an updated version of an older favorite that’s been in Seabrook for many years.

For example, both the North and South Alder Park neighborhoods offer a floor plan called the Alder Cottage, which remains a fan favorite at Seabrook.

One of the things we decided to do for The Croft neighborhood was to make these plans just slightly bigger because we wanted two full bathrooms. We then added two feet to the width of the home to also create a little bit more breathing room in the living room.  The result is a more spacious two bedroom plan with two full baths and a full size washer and dryer.

Beach Daisy Floor Plan

Completing The Croft, we have a one-of-a-kind house on the far northeast end of the park called a Beach Daisy.

This has also been a very popular plan in previous Seabrook neighborhoods. But in this instance, it sits proudly at the northeast corner of The Croft Park, tilting ever so slightly so it will get that western sunset streaming through the park.

The Croft – Now Selling

Interested in learning more about The Croft homes?  Register now for more information and a sales agent will be right back to you!  Or, give us a call at (360) 276-0099.  More details on each home can also be found within the Farm District home listings portion of our website.

Razor Clam Dig Seabrook Washington Coast Sunset

Your Guide to WA Clam Tides

How to Locate Clams

One of the most important factors when clam digging in Washington state is the state of the ocean tide. Be sure to check the conditions of the WA clam tides before hitting the beaches.  The best time to go is low tide because you’ll have more space to look for clams. Many people suggest arriving an hour or two before peak low tide. To find the clams, you must look for “clam shows.” These are areas in the sand where clams have left a trace of their presence. Scan the sand for three types of shows: keyhole (a hole about the size of a dime), donut (a small hole surrounding by raised sand), and depression (a small dent in the sand). Sometimes you’ll have to hit the sand with a shovel, clam tube, or your foot to get these shows to appear.

What You’ll Need to Dig

Once you’ve located a clam, you can either use a shovel or a clam tube to pull the shellfish up. If this if your first time clamming, it’s easiest to use the clam tube. Place the tube over the clam show, angled slightly towards the water. If you feel the tube hit the clam, readjust. Then, push the tub down into the sand, lift it out and remove the sand by shaking the tube. Congrats! Your newly found clam should fall out along with the sand. Throw your clams into a bucket as soon as possible because they can dig very quickly, and may end up back in the sand before you know it. If you want to give the shovel method a try, use the same techniques to locate a show. Then, begin to dig about six inches from the show, closer to the water. Keep your back to the surf and shovel away from the ocean. When it feels as though you’ve just barely touched the clam, reach with a gloved hand and grab the shellfish from the ocean side, where its hinge is, and pull it from the ground. Be warned, it is easier to break clams using this method. You will likely get wet while digging, so wear high boots and bring an extra set of clothing to change into. If you don’t mind getting your feet wet, you can wear sneakers, but we suggest bringing a second pair of shoes with you.

When to Dig for Clams

One of the most common questions people ask is, “when can you dig for clams in Washington state?” Clamming season greatly depends on the type of clam you’re digging for. Razor clams usually appear on the beaches from October through May. Other species like geoducks and butters can be dug year-round. Be sure to check the state harvesting rules before hitting the beach.

Explore the Elk Creek Promenade that leads directly to the beach or take a drive out to the Quinault Rain Forest Nature Trail to experience the unique ecosystem. You’ll witness waterfalls, giant red cedars, nesting eagles, and more.

Kayak on Grays Harbor

If you’re planning your getaway during the warmer months of the year, there’s an abundance of watersports and activities to take advantage of during your stay in Seabrook. Grays Harbor, located a few miles south of Seabrook, offers some of the best kayaking in the area with an extensive network of rivers and creeks. Float atop the Hoquiam River to view the abandoned remains of old industrial ships still beached on the shores. Or, bring your kayaks to the Wishkah River in Aberdeen and stop at the Kurt Cobain Memorial Bridge, a place where the late singer spent much of his childhood. Adventurous or experienced paddlers may want to explore the rough waters of the Chehalis River. To kayak amongst unique scenery, check out the Ghost Forest on Copalis River. This cluster of dead trees has an intriguing history related to a 9.0 magnitude earthquake that hit the Washington coast in 1700 and led to a massive tsunami in Japan. If you want to stay in Seabrook and take advantage of the other water activities, head to Buck’s Bikes to rent a paddleboard, surfboard, or skimboard for the day.

What to Try at Frontager’s Pizza in Seabrook, Washington

Antipasti

When you visit Frontager’s Pizza’s, the smell will make you want to beeline straight to the pies. However, you don’t want to miss the chance to try their delicious starters, as well. Try the Warm Marinated Olives or Whipped Ricotta for a simple way to begin your meal. The Littleneck Clams Di Forno are a great way to experience a staple of the Washington Coast, Frontager’s style. If you come with a crowd (or just a really big appetite), try the Antipasti Board to sample the best of their appetizers. It serves six.

Pizzas

This is why you’re here! Frontager’s Pizza serves amazing brick oven-fired pizza made with ingredients from right here on the Olympic Peninsula. Our suggestion is to try a couple of their classics alongside a couple of their more creative pies. The Margherita (pulled mozzarella, heirloom tomato, whole basil, balsamic, San Marzano tomato) is a sure crowd pleaser, as is the Neopolita Marinara (confit garlic, basil, and oregano). For some non-traditional choices, consider the fennel sausage leek, and red onion pizza, or have breakfast on your pizza when you try the cracked egg, smoked bacon, and fingerling potato-topped pie. No matter what you choose, just remember that it’s really hard to go wrong here – everything is delicious! See their full menu for the complete list of pizzas and more.

Dessert

Don’t forget dessert! Feed your sweet tooth with some the exquisite gelato at Frontager’s Pizza. Try the house made flavor of the day, or try the chocolate of vanilla bean options. Take it up a notch with the addition of chocolate ganache or a brownie, or go for the Strawberry Gelato Pie for something unexpected.
