Best Spring Hikes Along the Washington Coast

While the Oregon Coast may have much of the attention for being an outdoor recreation area, those in the know understand that the true beauty of the Pacific Coast is found in Washington State. For roughly 157 miles, the Pacific Ocean slams against the Evergreen State, transforming the sandy shores into some of the most scenic hike and vacation destinations in America. From the rocky bluffs at Cape Flattery, down to the out-dated and melodramatically name Cape Disappointment, the return of spring means not just longer daylight hours but also the start of adventures and vacations. Using Seabrook as your camp, explore the best trails along the coast this spring, falling further in love with the coastline of our state.

The Trails at Seabrook

Considered the best place to live, visit or vacation along the Washington Coast, Seabrook is the ideal basecamp for every Washington Coast adventure. Perfectly placed in the middle of the state’s Pacific Coastline, staying at Seabrook gives you the best location to see the best beaches in the state. In the Spring, the gray skies of winter start to part ways, transforming Seabrook into the can’t miss destination. In April and May, thousands of gray whales migrate north, swimming within a mile of the breaking waves seen from the lodging options at Seabrook. With breathtaking views, miles of trails to hike both in the forest and along the beach, and incredible dining and drink options, a stay at Seabrook will whet your appetite for further coastal hiking adventures.

The Mouth of the Copalis River

Just seven miles south of Seabrook sits the little town of Copalis, where Griffith-Priday State Park awaits your coastal adventure. In the spring months, the beach at Griffith-Priday comes alive with shorebird migrations and whale sightings, clam digs and dog-friendly hiking. The park, which has four miles of trails through the dunes and along the beach, is a great place to find sand-dollars, see eagles and shorebirds, and even explore the mouth of the majestic Copalis River where it meets the Pacific Ocean. A Washington State Discover Pass is needed to explore here, but the cost is well worth the endless wanderings along the sandy shores you will have.

Ruby Beach and the Tree of Life
Ruby Beach

Considered to be one of the prettiest beaches in the Pacific Northwest, Kalaloch Beach has two can’t miss destinations this spring. Before the summer crowds flock to these popular spots along Highway 101, head to these iconic spots, just 69 miles from Seabrook. In the spring months, the great gray whale migration is visible, while scores of bald eagles fly overhead and perch in nearby trees. The two must-see hiking options along this stretch of coast are Ruby Beach and the Tree of Life, both less than a mile in length. Ruby Beach is a wonderland of sea stacks and driftwood and has one of the best sunset spots on the entire Pacific Coast of the US.  The Tree of Life, just south of the Kalaloch campground, is as iconic as it is beautiful, precariously perched above a cave, barely holding on. It won’t last forever, so don’t skip this spot!

Second Beach at LaPush and Rialto Beach
Second Beach

One hundred and ten miles from Seabrook, two stunning beach hikes will compete for your adoration and attention. The first, just south of the small community of LaPush, is a highlight of Olympic National Park and one of the can’t miss adventures. Known as Second Beach, this four mile round trip trek leads through a breathtaking forest before leading down to a stunning stretch of beach filled with sea stacks and tide pools. Not to be outdone, on the other side of the river from LaPush, Olympic National Park’s Rialto Beach is a breathtaking walk along a rugged shoreline. This four mile trip passes next to endless driftwood, rocky shores and towering sea stacks, highlighted by the aptly named Hole in the Wall. In the Spring months, LaPush is the home to the annual Welcoming the Whales Ceremony put on by the Quileute Tribe.

Cape Disappointment

One hundred miles from Seabrook, nestled at the mouth of the Columbia River, a coastal wonderland with an iconic lighthouse, huge waves and miles of trails is waiting for you. There are eight miles of hiking around the Cape Disappointment State Park, making this a perfect place to explore before working your way back up Highway 101 toward Seabrook. A Washington State Discover Pass is needed to explore here, but with spring whale watching, incredible waves and iconic destinations like Dead Man’s Cove, you won’t mind the small fee. Seriously, hike Dead Man’s Cove, as the view from here is worth the drive down.

Shi Shi Beach
Shi Shi Beach

Finally, we end at what most consider to be the wildest and gorgeous beach on the entire West Coast. Yes, it may take three hours to get here from Seabrook, but the drive is along Highway 101 and the incredibly gorgeous Strait of Juan de Fuca Scenic Highway, passing ocean views, herds of elk, hidden waterfalls and towering trees. All of this to reach the trailhead to Shi Shi Beach, which leads to a swath of coastline as wild and rugged as you can imagine. Full of sea stacks and tide pools, insane geology and sea life, a spring trip to Shi Shi rewards you with an empty beach that is packed in the summer months. With whales visible, seals, otters, eagles and deer frequently spotted, and the rocky coastline stretching north and south, hiking this eight mile round trip trail is considered to be the highlight of the Washington Coast. To visit, you’ll need a Makah Tribal Pass, available for just $10 at numerous locations around Neah Bay.

Make Seabrook Your Home Away From Home

Choosing one of these destinations or taking a few weeks and exploring them all is up to you. Using Seabrook as your jumping off point will give you not just a great place to rest each night, but gives you a relaxing, beautiful and accessible beach home for as long as you wish. After a day of driving and hiking, return back to Seabrook and enjoy the food, shopping and drinks, or take the next day to relax at the spa, take a dip in the pool and enjoy the sounds of life in this perfect beach community.

Storm Watching and Sunsets
spring storm at Ruby Beach

While most will head to the coast to storm watch in the fall and winter months, those looking for a treat should watch the weather and out for a spring storm. Full of wind, rain and warmer temperatures, spring storms will amaze you with their power and beauty. As the storm surge floods the creeks and rivers, and the rain falls in buckets, the spirit of the Washington coast comes alive. The best part of the spring storms is that once they blow through, the sunset afterwards is truly magnificent. If your visit doesn’t happen during a storm, don’t worry! The stunning spring sunsets from Seabrook to Ruby Beach and back down to the mouth of the Columbia River will forever be burned into your mind’s eye.

Shorebird Migration

Along with the warmer temperatures, spring storms, and the great whale migration, there is one more incredible event that needs to be seen in person. Starting in March and gaining steam through April and May, the beaches around Grays Harbor, as well as the sandy shores of Bowerman Basin come alive with a huge shorebird migration. Like nothing you have ever seen, most of the world’s population of Western Sandpipers move through Grays Harbor estuary, some spending two to five days. With roughly a quarter of a million shorebirds frequenting the region, you’ll have a chance to see giant flocks of birds, as well as hawks and eagles hunting them from above.

22 Reasons to Love the WA Coast in Winter

Oh winter. The thundering crash of the waves, velvet gray clouds, and drizzly rains. The invigorating nip of the air, fragrant with sea salt! A magical spot during the winter, the Washington Coast beckons with seasonal activities from chocolate festivals in Pacific Beach, to breathtaking seaside hikes in the Olympic National Park. Who says summer is the only time to visit the Washington Coast? Here are 22 reasons you’ll love winter on the Washington Coast.

OUTDOOR ACTIVITIES

STORM WATCHING
Storm watching at Seabrook

With no land masses between the Washington coast and Japan, storm fronts rolling in from the west have 3,000 miles of open ocean to build into spectacular events. As winter storms collide with the coastline, watching the waves crest and crash against the rocky capes and cliffs is an exhilarating experience.

CLAMMING
Dad and daughter digging for Razor clams

Throughout the season, you may notice clusters of people digging on the ocean beaches. They’re not digging for gold, but something much tastier – clams! At Seabrook, digging for clams is a popular leisure activity for families, groups of friends, and visitors to the region. Why? Because it’s fun, and it’s easy! You just get out here and do it. Everyone who tries it loves it. And for many, it quickly becomes a family tradition.

SURF WINTER WAVES
Winter surfing in the Pacific Ocean

Those who brave the conditions to paddle out off the Washington coast in the winter are treated to big swells, thin crowds, and breathtaking, wild terrain.

HOT TUBS
Hot tubs overlooking the Pacific Ocean

Nothing beats a little romance and relaxation in a hot tub on a deck overlooking the Pacific Ocean. Many of Seabrook’s rental homes feature private hot tubs and incredible views sure to nourish your body and soul.

BEACHCOMBING
Beach combing treasures

Sure, it might be cold outside, but the winter season is the best time to go beachcombingWhy? The heavier waves the coast gets this time of year stirs up the surf and drops a fortune of unique treasures on to the beach. The best time to go beachcombing is after a storm when the tides are low so the beach is exposed and you can find more treasures.

WINTER HIKING
Winter Hiking Trails

Olympic National Park is said to be one of the most stunningly beautiful places in the world. With rainforests, glaciated mountains, and the longest stretches of undistributed coastal wilderness in the lower 48, the Olympic National Forest is a hikers paradise.

The Top 9 Stops on the Pacific Coast Scenic Byway

Port Townsend

Your journey starts at Port Townsend on the far northeast corner of the Olympic Peninsula. This 19th-century Victorian seaport boasts elegant architecture throughout the charming town. Shops and galleries line the main street in town and make for a nice stroll. Grab a bite to eat at one of the many restaurants before driving a couple of minutes north of the town to Fort Worden State Park, which boasts great views and some interesting military fort history.

Dungeness Spit

Head out of town back to the Pacific Coast Scenic Byway for 55 minutes to Dungeness Spit. This sandy wildlife refuge protruding out into the Strait of Juan de Fuca provides fantastic views of the waterway and is a great spot to get a peek at some of Washington’s birds and sea mammals. While you walk along the spit or kayak around Dungeness Bay, keep your eyes peeled for elephant and harbor seals popping their heads up out of the water! Make sure you bring your camera for excellent photo opportunities here.

Hurricane Ridge

Drive down Route 101 through Port Angeles to the Olympic National Park welcome center. Once you buy a pass, start your 30-minute drive up to Hurricane Ridge. Stop and take a couple of pictures from one of the scenic overlooks before you reach the 5,242-foot summit. The views here are nothing short of spectacular. If you look to the north, you can see tree-covered valleys, the Strait of Juan de Fuca, and if it’s a clear day you can even see Canada! Turn around to face the southern portion of the park and the towering head of Mount Olympus greets you with its snow-covered peak. Take a walk around one of the paved pathways stemming from the parking lot where deer and mountain goats roam. Make sure you scan the treetops for a potential bald eagle or hawk sighting.

Lake Crescent

After you head back down the mountain, get back on the Pacific Coast Scenic Byway and drive over to Lake Crescent. This glacially carved lake boasts plenty of scenic stops, water activities, and trails surrounding its shoreline. Kayaking, canoeing, and hiking are the main attractions here, where you can jump into the “Devils Punch Bowl,” or explore Spruce Pine Railroad Trail tunnel.

Marymere Falls

One of the best stops along Route 101 around Lake Crescent is the Barnes Creek Trail near the Lake Cresent Lodge. The trail branches of into the forest and takes you along the banks of Barnes Creek before making a sharp turn near Falls Creek. As you start to climb a mix of hills and wooden stairs, the roar of water begins to become clearer and clearer until you reach the top. The 90-foot tall Marymere Falls greets you with its delicate cascade of water into the pool below. This is a perfect spot to snap a couple of pictures before wandering back through the picturesque forest full of giant ferns and tall spruce and fir trees.

Hoh Rain Forest

One of our favorite spots to stop along Route 101 is the Hoh Rain Forest. It’s about an hour and a half drive from Lake Crescent on your way south to Seabrook. This temperate rainforest is a mix of lush, green vegetation, towering spruce and fir trees, and a turquoise river. Once you reach the visitor center, hike around one of the many cleared paths leading to the banks of the Hoh River, where you’ll feel like you are standing in a scene of The Revenant. As your eyes scan the banks of the river, you’ll slowly look up through the dense trees up the tall, stately mountains to the rich, blue sky. Here, you can finally be one with nature.

Ruby Beach

Once you leave Hoh Rain Forest, travel further south down the Pacific Coast Scenic Byway for about 40 minutes to Ruby Beach. This long stretch of sand becomes an excellent place to explore the sea stacks, tide pools, and rocky coastline during low tide. Washington’s coast is one of the wildest shores in the country, so a stop here is well worth on your way down to Washington’s Beach Town.

Grays Harbor Wildlife Refuge

Before you end your journey in Seabrook, drive 30-minutes past our town to Grays Harbor Wildlife Refuge for a birding experience like no other. From April through May, hundreds of thousands of birds flock to the muddy tide flats of Grays Harbor Estuary. Bring your camera for some excellent photo ops.

10 of the Best Things Do in Olympic National Park

Olympic Mountains

The Olympic Mountains are literally and figuratively the crown of the entire peninsula. Mount Olympus towers over the whole park at almost 8,000-feet tall. Snow-capped peaks spread across the skyline of this 3,600-square-mile area. The mountain range stretches from coast to coast, so visitors have to maneuver their way through to explore all of the national park’s top sights. Hiking, biking, and camping are big hits during the spring and summer while skiing and snowboarding are the best activities during winter.

Hurricane Ridge

Get ready for stunning views atop one of the highest lookout points in the Olympic Mountains. Hurricane Ridge offers guests skiing, snowboarding, and tubing in the winter in addition to hiking, landscape photography, and wildlife viewing in the summer. The drive from Port Angeles takes you up over 5,000 feet where eagles soar overhead, mountain goats and deer walk among you, and alpine trees seem to reach up and poke the blue canvas above you.

Lake Crescent

This glacially carved lake features canoeing and kayaking on its 12 miles of pristine blue water bordered on every side by steep mountains. Lake Crescent gets its name from the moon-like shape of its shoreline. There are several stops along Route 101 where you can get out, stretch your legs and hike on trails that wind through the Olympic Peninsula wilderness. Spruce Railroad Trail takes you past the “Devils Punch Bowl,” a popular diving and swimming area, to an old railroad tunnel.

Marymere Falls

The Barnes Creek trail branches off from Lake Crescent and takes you through woods that look like you are in a movie. While there is plenty of jaw-dropping flora and fauna to see along the trail, Marymere Falls is the main attraction. This 90-foot waterfall cascades down the side of a tall mountain down into a creek below. A viewing deck gives you a great photo opportunity before heading back to the lake.

Ruby Beach

Ruby Beach lies just beyond the technical border of Olympic National Park, but copious amounts of driftwood, the collection of sea stacks off the shore, and walking ability during low tide makes this a great stop. You can take a long walk down the long stretch of beach and explore the many tidepools during low tide, make sure you check the schedule before heading over!

Hoh Rain Forest

There are plenty of fantastic options for discovering new and exciting landscapes, but the Hoh Rain Forest is arguably the single best thing to do in Olympic National Park. This temperate rain forest is full of lush vegetation, towering trees that are so thick you can’t rain your arms around them, and a turquoise river that runs along the edge of the forest. Hiking and camping are the two main activities here, but you should also keep your eyes open for the native banana slug and herds of elk traipsing through the forest.

Sol Duc River Valley

The Sol Duc River flows through this valley full of massive old forest growth. In addition to hiking, the river has a couple of good fishing spots, especially near the Salmon Cascades overlook. The river serves as a key highway for coho salmon, which leap up the foamy white Sol Duc Falls to spawn upstream in October and November.

Pacific Beach State Park

Pacific Beach is a great spot to relax and watch the waves crash on the sand, but during the spring it turns into one of the best places to watch whales migrate up north for the summer.

Dungeness National Wildlife Refuge

This long spit of sand stretches out like a long arm into the Strait of Juan de Fuca, forming a bay. Fishing, shellfishing, kayaking, wildlife photography, and hiking are the highlights in the Dungeness National Wildlife Refuge, where you may see elephant and harbor seals sunning themselves on the beach.

Cape Flattery

The northern tip of the contiguous United States showcases the beauty and fury of the mighty Pacific Ocean. Cape Flattery has several hiking trails, but the overlook is the main attraction here, giving you views of waves repeatedly striking steep, rocky cliffs topped with a smattering of green pines.

Explore the Olympic Peninsula During Your Winter Getaway

Hike the Hoh Rain Forest

A winter hike through the Hoh Rain Forest is an unforgettable experience. The temperatures are slightly lower than surrounding areas, so the melted snow creates lush, green scenery around the many paths near the visitor center. Find your way to the Hoh River for a look at the snow-covered banks bordering its fast flowing waters. Make sure you bring boots and a rain jacket because winter is the rainy season. While you will get wet, a peaceful walk through one of the only temperate rain forests in the United States is well worth it.

Enjoy the Views from Hurricane Ridge

Simply put, the views from Hurricane Ridge are unbelievable. Add a layer of snow to the mix and be prepared to experience the perfect winter paradise. Drive up the winding road from the Olympic National Park entrance to the visitor center. There, you can hop out of your car and walk along several short paved paths leading to wide open vistas. Get a glimpse of the Pacific Ocean, Mount Olympus, and if its a clear day, Canada. Bring warm clothes and bundle up because it gets cold during the winter months!

Tip: Make sure you check the National Park Service for any information on road closures, safety warnings, or winter weather advisories.

Watch Winter Storms Off of the Pacific Coast

Rain, wind, and tides combine to showcase an entertaining natural phenomenon off of Washington’s coastline. Sit on one of the long tree limbs stretched out across the sand at Rialto Beach and watch storms roll up and down the coast. For a more interactive beach experience, head south to Ruby Beach at low tide and walk around the towering sea stacks separated from the mainland by years of the ocean erosion. Search the tidepools for sea creatures and scan the sea stacks for colonies of nesting birds. This is a great last stop on your way back to Seabrook!

Fall Clam Digging Season in Seabrook Opens

Can You Dig It?

The first razor clam dig of the fall season will get underway Oct. 11 – Oct. 13, as various beaches, including Seabrook beaches.

The Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife (WDFD) has approved the dig on evening tides at Mocrocks, Copalis, and Twin Harbors after marine toxin tests showed that clams on those beaches are safe to eat. No digging is allowed on any beach before noon.

The upcoming dig is approved on the following beaches, dates, and evening low tides:

  • October 11, Thursday, 8:58 p.m.; -0.6 feet; Mocrocks, Twin Harbor
  • October 12, Friday, 9:41 p.m.; -0.3 feet; Copalis, Twin Harbor
  • October 13, Saturday, 10:26 p.m.; +0.1 feet; Mocrocks, Twin Harbor

Dan Ayres, WDFW coastal shellfish manager, recommends that diggers hit the beach about an hour or two before low tide for the best results.

Diggers want to be sure to come prepared with good lighting devices and always keep an eye on the surf, particularly in the fall when the best low tides come after dark, he added.

“Digging after dark brings with it the spectacle of thousands of small lights representing individual razor clam diggers working their way up and down the beach,” said Ayres.

Where to dig

All diggers age 15 or older must have an applicable 2018-19 fishing license to harvest razor clams on any beach. Licenses, ranging from a three-day razor clam license to an annual combination fishing license, are available on WDFW’s website at https://fishhunt.dfw.wa.gov and from license vendors around the state.

Under state law, diggers at open beaches can take 15 razor clams per day and are required to keep the first 15 they dig. Each digger’s clams must be kept in a separate container.

Where to Dig

Seabrook’s beaches are ideal for digging clams. The actual name for the beach located directly in front of Seabrook is Mocrocks, and Copalis is south of that.

Mocrocks: Extends from the Copalis River to the southern boundary of the Quinault Reservation near the Moclips River, including Seabrook, Iron Springs, Roosevelt Beach, Pacific Beach, and Moclips.

Copalis: Extends from the Grays Harbor north jetty to the Copalis River, and includes the Copalis, Ocean Shores, Oyhut, Ocean City and Copalis areas.

How to Dig Razor Clams

First look for a “clam show”. What is a clam show? That’s where a clam has withdrawn its neck or started to dig leaving a hole or dimple in the sand. There are three major kinds of “shows” to look for:

  • dimple: a depression in the sand
  • doughnut: which has raised sides
  • keyhole: which is usually in drier sand areas and is shaped like an “hour-glass” or is a hole with very distinct sides.

Always look for the larger sized hole as this is a good indication that the clam will be larger, but not always.

Clams will also show at the edge of the surf line when you pound the beach with a shovel handle or your foot. They may squirt sand and water out of the hole where they are located. You need to be quick when digging in the surf as razor clams dig really fast in the soft fluid sand.

The Golden Hour: How to take amazing sunset pics at Seabrook AND where to snap them

Sunsets might be the biggest cliche in photography, but they’re still fun to take. According to data recently gathered by SpaSeekers, a whopping 286 million images of sunsets were uploaded to Instagram over the last year.

Golden Hour at Seabrook

There’s something about a beautiful sunset that makes the travel experience complete, so we’re here to help you capture amazing sunsets at Seabrook by outlining some basic photography tips as well as identifying some great places to capture a beautiful sunset picture.

But first, what is the Golden Hour?

The Golden Hour refers to that brief period of time when the sun is at its lowest point in the sky: just before the sunsets and right after it rises.

However, photographing the Golden Hour light requires a specific set of skills and knowledge. When the sun is near the horizon line and provides you with that sharp angle of light, it not only produces strong shadows and highlights, but it also improves the texture of your scene.

Here are some of our basic photography tips to help you capture Seabrook’s sunset better, including some locations to snap your photo:

TIP #1: Scout the location

The key to taking good photos at sunset is to study the position of the sun. Golden Hour is usually the best time, but it doesn’t last long. Arrive at your spot at least 30 minutes before and scout the location. What you want to look for is how the sun interacts with the surroundings. So, if possible, go to the same spot several times to find the best point-of-view.

TIP #2: Use your tripod

If you have one, use a tripod. Do not shoot at high ISO levels. If there aren’t any clouds in the sky, hide the sun behind trees so that the rays pass through a kind of frame.

TIP #3: Underexpose

This might be the most important tip when taking pictures of sunsets. Slightly underexposing the sunset will make the colors look more vibrant and defined. The whole scene will become more dramatic. You can underexpose by using manual mode and selecting a fast shutter speed.

TIP #4: Creating silhouettes

To create silhouettes in the foreground, just speed up your shutter speed and you’ll have a silhouette. The secret to taking good silhouette shots is to find a subject with fine details that will let the sun shine through it and that has a recognizable shape. If you use something too big as the silhouette, it will take away from the picture since it’s just a large area of blackness.

TIP #5: Create a starburst effect

Before the sun actually sets, stop down your lens’s aperture to a high value such as f/22 to make the rays of the sun more clear. It will give the sun a starburst effect.

Now that you have some basic photography tips, let’s talk about some great places to snap an amazing sunset picture at Seabrook. For this exercise, we will use photos taken by Seabrook homeowner and super skilled photographer, Michael Palermiti.

LOCATION #1: Main path to the beach

Seabrook sunset

Camera Setting: ISO 400 | 70mm | f/7.1 | 1/80 sec.

Here is a perfect sunset picture capturing the beautiful blue, orange, and pink hues. What makes this picture more interesting is the cloud cover and haze in the air. Washington state had some major wildfires in the summer of 2017 which created a unique canvass for the setting sun. In addition to the sky, this picture also captures Seabrook’s iconic Arbor heading down to the Pacific Ocean which adds another layer to this amazing photo.

Location: This photo was taken along the main walkway that leads to the ocean across from the Sunset Amphitheater. More specifically, heading to the beach from town, take the walkway down and cross SR-109. As soon as you cross the street, there is a little “pull-off” on your left. This is the perfect little area to set up your tripod and attempt to recreate the image above or capture your piece of Heaven in a picture.

LOCATION #2: Pacific Glen Walkway

Golden Hour at Seabrook

Camera Settings: ISO 400 | 24mm | f/9.0 | 1/60 sec.

This is a gorgeous picture and a great learning tool for other photographers. Sometimes, on a clear and beautiful night when the sun is setting, there isn’t much interesting going on in the sky. When there aren’t any clouds in the sky, the trick is to look away from the sunset and observe the other colors and hues. In this picture, Michael uses the homes in the Pacific Glen neighborhood as his subject capturing the colors of the blue sky as the sun fades below the horizon. Another element about this picture that you can recreate is the composition. If your picture isn’t interesting enough, get closer. In this picture, Michael got close enough to the homes where the first home fills up the screen and they get smaller as they get further away from the lens. What a beautiful picture.

Location: This photo was taken along the Pacific Glen neighborhood walkway that fronts the ocean. Heading to the ocean from Market Street, cross SR-109 onto Pacifica Lane. As you walk as if you’re heading down to the beach, the Pacific Glen neighborhood walkway will be on your right. Follow the oystershell path along the white fence and as soon as you get to the end of the path, turnaround to see the image Michael captured in his shot above.

LOCATION #3: Northwest Glen Walkway

Seabrook sunset

Camera Settings: ISO 200 | 24mm | f/16 | 1/100 sec.

Here is another gorgeous picture Michael took of the sun setting at Seabrook. The sky was perfectly blue that day, not a cloud to be seen. To create an interesting scene, Michael encorporated the trees from some cool lighting effects. You can also see the really cool “starburst” effect created by the position and light manipulation of the photographer. A key takeaway from this photo is – if there aren’t any clouds in the sky, shift the focus to a subject in the foreground while the sun sets in the background.

Location: To capture this image, Michael positioned himself along the Northwest Glen neighborhood walkway along the bluff. To get there from town, head down Front Street and cross SR-109 into the Northwest Glen neighborhood. Continue walking straight where you will see a Pomenade. Walk straight down that path where you’ll be greeted by picnic tables, benches, and beautiful views of the Pacific Ocean.

Now that you know how to take a sunset pictures; and now that you know where in Seabrook is the best place to take a sunet picture, get out there and start taking pictures. And when you’ve captured that perfect sunset picture, upload it to your Instagram account using the hashtag #SeabrookSunsets for your chance to win a two-night stay in the Red Sunset House.
